Managing Collections
Learn how to create, organize, and manage collections to keep your images organized by project, client, or category.
Creating Collections
Collections are the primary way to organize your images in OPTIMAGE. Each collection acts as a separate container for related images, making it easy to manage images by project, client, or any other category.
Creating a Collection
- Click the "New Collection" button from your dashboard
- Enter a collection name (minimum 3 characters)
- Optionally add a description to help identify the collection's purpose
- Click "Create" to save your new collection
Naming Requirements
- •Minimum length: 3 characters
- •Maximum length: 100 characters
- •Allowed characters: Letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens, and underscores
- •Uniqueness: Collection names must be unique within your account
Organizing Images
Effective collection organization helps you find images quickly and maintain a clean workspace. Here are some recommended strategies:
By Project
Create a collection for each website or application project. This keeps all project-related images together and makes it easy to share collection access with team members.
Example: "E-Commerce Website", "Mobile App v2", "Landing Page Campaign"
By Client
If you manage images for multiple clients, create separate collections for each client. This provides clear separation and makes billing tracking easier.
Example: "Acme Corp", "Smith & Associates", "TechStart Inc"
By Category
Organize by content type or usage. This works well for content-heavy sites with various image categories.
Example: "Product Photos", "Blog Headers", "Team Portraits", "Icons"
By Environment
Separate images by deployment environment to prevent accidental production changes.
Example: "Production Assets", "Staging Assets", "Development Assets"
Tip: Use consistent naming conventions across collections. For example, prefix all client collections with "Client:" or suffix environment collections with "-prod", "-staging", etc.
Editing Collections
You can update collection details at any time without affecting the images stored within:
Updating Collection Details
- Navigate to the collection you want to edit
- Click the "Edit Collection" button
- Update the name or description as needed
- Click "Save Changes" to apply your updates
Note: Changing a collection name does not affect image URLs. All images continue to work with their existing URLs since they use the collection ID, not the name.
Viewing Collection Details
Each collection provides detailed information about its contents:
- •Image count: Total number of images in the collection
- •Collection ID: Unique identifier used in image URLs
- •Creation date: When the collection was created
- •Image gallery: Thumbnail previews of all images in the collection
- •Storage usage: Total storage space used by collection images
Click on any image in a collection to view its details, including all available sizes, URLs, and usage code snippets.
Deleting Images
When you need to remove images from a collection, OPTIMAGE uses a soft delete approach:
How Deletion Works
- Click the delete button on any image in your collection
- Confirm the deletion in the prompt
- The image is marked as deleted and removed from your collection view
- Image URLs become unavailable immediately
- The image is permanently removed from storage after 30 days
Important: Deleted images do not restore your monthly quota. Once an image counts toward your quota, that count remains for the current billing period even if the image is deleted. Plan your uploads accordingly.
Deleting Collections
You can also delete entire collections:
- Navigate to the collection you want to delete
- Click "Delete Collection" in the collection settings
- Confirm the deletion (this action cannot be undone)
- All images in the collection are deleted along with the collection
Warning: Deleting a collection permanently deletes all images within it. This action cannot be undone. Make sure you have backups of any images you may need in the future.
Collection Limits
OPTIMAGE provides generous collection limits across all plans:
- ✓Unlimited collections: Create as many collections as you need on any plan
- ✓No images-per-collection limit: Store unlimited images in each collection
- •Monthly quota applies: Your total image uploads are limited by your plan's monthly quota
Tip: Take advantage of unlimited collections to maintain well-organized image libraries. There's no penalty for creating more collections, so organize your images in whatever way works best for your workflow.
Quota Information
Your monthly image quota varies by plan:
- Free: 500 images per month
- Pro: 5,000 images per month
- Business: 25,000 images per month
Your quota resets on the first day of each month. You can view your current usage and remaining quota on your dashboard.
